This doublet has such a vibrant opal flashing across its surface at certain angles.
A doublet is a thin slice of opal placed on top of an obsidian (black) backing, to enhance the colours of the opal. These opals can be more fragile than solid opals, and also shouldn't get wet often as this affects the glue on the backing. However the benefit of doublet opals is that they allow high quality opal colours at a much lower price tag than it would be as a solid. The doublet measures in at 6.5 x 4mm and originates from Coober Pedy, Australia.
I would personally set this horizontally on a 1.3mm band, with a double silver granulation either side of the opal. However as always the choice of design is yours!

All opal photographs are shot using a macro lens under natural lighting. The colours are never edited. I will guarantee you will find the opals even more beautiful in person - even though they do look pretty epic in photos.
